Dorchester Old Home Day History

Dorchester Old Home Day is a cherished tradition that brings together neighbors, families, and friends to celebrate everything that makes our town special. Held each August, this ALL DAY CELEBRATION includes a community parade, local vendors, kids zone foam cannon, live music, food, and our beloved Basket Bonanza—culminating in a spirited square dance finale.

The tradition of Old Home Day in Dorchester goes back generations, echoing a New Hampshire wide tradition started in the late 1800s to encourage former residents to return and reconnect with their hometowns. In Dorchester, it has become a hallmark of summer, welcoming all—past and present residents, nearby neighbors, and first-time visitors.

Founded in 1761, Dorchester, New Hampshire is one of the oldest towns in Grafton County. Nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains, Dorchester is known for its scenic landscapes, deep community ties, and a strong commitment to preserving its rural character. With a population just over 350, Dorchester may be small, but its spirit is big—

and Old Home Day is the perfect time to experience it.

Whether you’re marching in the parade, entering a homemade pie, visiting for the first time, or coming home again, we invite you to join us in celebrating the heart of Dorchester.
