About the Event
Two weekends ago, the Granite State Flash Cross Country Team braved high winds and freezing rain to compete at the 2019 USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Long Island. The conditions were the worst seen at this event in more than a decade, but eight students from Indian River School and one from Canaan Elementary School of the Mascoma Valley Regional School District raced hard to earn their place at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wisconsin, on December 14.
All nine of these children, ages 8 through 13, have been training and racing for the past three months in preparation for these competitions, traveling twice a week to work with the team in Manchester and staying after school until dark on other days. They are incredibly proud of their achievements and eager to prove themselves on the course in Madison.
Between flights, accommodations, transportation, and food, we estimate this trip will cost each family at least $1000. We are asking for a contribution to Granite State Flash Youth Cross Country Running and Track & Field Club [a nonprofit 501(c)(3)(20-1939041)], earmarked for runners from the Mascoma Valley Regional School District to help alleviate the financial burden on the families. All donations go straight to their USATF Club, Granite State Flash, with 100% of the donation processed back to our runners. The donations do need to go to the club first, to protect their amateur status as runners. The Granite State Flash is a nonprofit group and all donations are tax deductible.
Competing alongside elite athletes from across the country is a challenge and a privilege we want our kids to be a part of; this is the type of experience that can make a lasting impact on a child’s future. We appreciate any help you might be able to offer.
To receive a donation form, please contact Rick Currier, Indian River Cross Country Head Coach and Granite State Flash Assistant Coach. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org
You can also donate through the team’s GoFundMe account. The downside of an online donation is it can take up to 45 days for GoFundMe to process donations and the trip is in two weeks. Plus, the Flash team is made up of more than just Mascoma runners, and while every effort will be made to separate the funds appropriately there is a chance the Mascoma donations could be sent to other families.
