Author and descendent of two whaling families, Helen Frink tells the story of two sunken whale ships discovered off the Alaskan coast in 2016 and how these vessels came to be lost in the greatest whaling disaster in American history.

About the Event

 Arctic whaler Nathaniel Ransom, who served as third mate of one of these  ships and survived the loss of thirty-two whaling vessels in the frigid  waters off Alaska’s Icy Cape in 1871, kept a journal detailing  eyewitness accounts of these events. Co-sponsored by NH Humanities.
